Eighteen suspected internet fraudsters have been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Ogun State.
The suspects were apprehended by officers from the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the commission during a sting operation at Prime Garden Hotel, located in Atun-iju, Idi-Iroko Road. Their arrest followed credible intelligence exposing their alleged involvement in internet-related fraud.
Among those arrested is a suspected kingpin, accused of swindling a victim out of a staggering N200 million. Items recovered from him include a red Lexus IS 250, a box of jewelry, foreign and local currencies, a driver’s licence belonging to a female United States citizen identified as Eva Lovia, and an identity card of a male U.S. military officer, Julian Miguel Arroyo.
Other items recovered from the group include a vehicle, several laptop computers, and incriminating documents.
The EFCC confirmed that all suspects will be prosecuted once investigations are completed.
