“It is with a heavy heart and profound sense of national loss that I received the news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.

Jonathan described Buhari as a disciplined officer, a selfless public servant, and a courageous leader who gave his best in the service of the country, both as military Head of State and civilian President.

According to him, Buhari’s life was marked by a strong sense of duty and unwavering commitment to the peace and progress of the country. He noted that the late leader would be remembered for his integrity and character.

“President Buhari was deeply admired across all levels of society for his decency and principled leadership,” Jonathan stated, adding that his life reflected a devotion to national ideals and personal sacrifice.

The former President also shared a personal reflection, noting that Buhari was not just a colleague in national leadership, but a senior whose presence and service shaped critical moments in Nigeria’s history.

“In his passing, Nigeria has lost one of its foremost leaders. I have lost a respected colleague and elder,” Jonathan said.

He concluded his message with prayers for the repose of the late President’s soul and offered condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina State, and the entire nation.

“On behalf of my family and the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, I extend my heartfelt condolences… May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” he added.
