Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a patriot of uncommon sincerity who dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria with integrity and discipline.

In an emotional statement released on Sunday, the senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District said the news of the former President’s passing was received with great shock and sadness, noting that the weight of the loss is difficult to fully grasp.

“This loss is a painful moment for our nation, and it is difficult to fully grasp the weight of his departure,” Adeola said.

“As mortals, we are reminded that death is inevitable, yet we hoped that the former President would once again overcome his health challenges, as he had done in the past.”

Senator Adeola praised Buhari’s unwavering commitment to national unity, accountability, and infrastructure development, stating that even his critics would agree that he served the country with sincerity and without self-interest.

“President Buhari was a disciplined leader, a patriot, and a man of uncommon integrity who served Nigeria with distinction both as a military ruler and as a democratically elected president. He governed with sincerity and a sense of purpose. Even his fiercest critics would agree that personal gain was never his motivation for public service,” he said.

On behalf of the people of Ogun West and Nigerians at large, Senator Adeola extended his condolences to the former First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari, the family, the Government and people of Katsina State, the Daura Emirate, and the Armed Forces. He also commiserated with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the loss of a “loyal friend and dependable comrade.”

“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljanat Firdaus,” the statement concluded.
