President Bola Tinubu has expressed gratitude to the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, for the care and honour he gave to the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, until his last days.
Speaking at the 8th Day Fidau prayer held in memory of the late monarch on Sunday, Tinubu reflected on the king’s legacy and how his blessings played a pivotal role in his political journey.
“I was successful because of your support and the blessing of the late Awujale. I came to him and he blessed me. He said, ‘You will win that election and you will be re-elected. Go ahead,” Tinubu said.
The President also praised Governor Abiodun for sharing in the wisdom of the late king and sustaining the values the monarch stood for.
In a lighter moment, Tinubu made reference to a popular nickname he once used for the governor during a campaign rally.
“I won’t bring out all his other titles. Okanlomo, Eleyi of Ogun State,” Tinubu said with a smile, drawing laughter from the crowd. “But I must thank him clearly for taking care of our father.”
