The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, codenamed So-Safe Corps, has urged students to shun irresponsible behaviour and remain focused on their education following the interception of seven young people during a routine patrol in Obantoko, Abeokuta.
The seven individuals, comprising five female students of Nawairudeen Secondary School, Obantoko, and two male youths reportedly identified as school dropouts, were encountered in a room within the Agogo Ide Community Development Association (CDA) area at about 10am on Thursday, October 22.
The incident was disclosed in a statement issued by the State Commander of the Corps, Commander Soji Ganzallo, and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander of Corps Adegunwa Adegbuyi.
According to the statement, the operatives were led by the Area Commander, ACC Babatunde Ogunseye, who subsequently handed the seven individuals over to the school principal for appropriate attention and further action.
The five female students were identified as Atinuke Motunrayo, Adepoju Precious, Bankole Rukayat, Ayinla Gisayo and Akindele Kausarat. They were reportedly students in Senior Secondary School Two (SS2) at the school.
The two male youths were identified as Adebayo Temidayo and Tobi, who were said to have dropped out of school.
Following the incident, the school principal reportedly expressed appreciation to the Corps for its vigilance and intervention before assembling the students in front of their schoolmates and inviting Ogunseye to address them.
Addressing the students, the Area Commander counselled them on the importance of discipline, good moral values and responsible conduct, urging them to avoid places and activities that could expose them to security risks or distract them from their education.
He particularly cautioned them against loitering around the Agogo Ide CDA area and other places where their safety could be compromised during school hours.
Ogunseye also stressed the need for parental guidance, school discipline and community cooperation in protecting young people and ensuring their commitment to education and personal development.
The State Commander, Ganzallo, reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to community safety, youth protection and crime prevention.
He called on parents, guardians, school authorities and community leaders to work together in guiding young people towards responsible behaviour and helping them secure a better future.
