The Ogun State Government has suspended Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, for six months over allegations of public misconduct that have drawn widespread criticism.

The suspension, approved by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, followed an investigation into the monarch’s actions, which were widely circulated on social media and deemed inappropriate for someone occupying a revered traditional stool.

The state government emphasized that its decision was aimed at preserving the sanctity and dignity of the traditional institution.

The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in collaboration with the Egba Traditional Council, took the action under Section 52(1) of the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs’ Law (2021). Both the monarch and the individual involved in the incident had earlier been summoned for interrogation.

A statement from the ministry confirmed, “After due investigation, the Kabiyesi has been suspended and stripped of the paraphernalia of his office, pending the final determination of his culpability in the matter.”

The government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the integrity of the chieftaincy institution while ensuring that justice is served.

Monarch Faces Police Interrogation Over Public Assault Allegation

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has invited the suspended monarch for interrogation regarding the public assault allegations against him.

Confirming the development, Police Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement made available to newsmen, stated that the investigation is ongoing and assured that justice will be served.

“No individual holds authority over the Nigeria Police Force. The matter is under thorough investigation, and appropriate actions will be taken based on findings,” he noted.

The police urged the public to remain calm while the case is being handled in accordance with the law.
