President Bola Tinubu has appointed Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye and Hon. Chisom D. Obih to the governing councils of two federal universities, while also naming principal officers for the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.
The appointments were contained in a statement on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Hon. Obih, who joins the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, replaces a late member of the council. Prof. Akinfeleye, a renowned communications scholar and former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, will serve on the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
Akinfeleye, who also chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television, previously served on the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja.
He replaces Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, who was appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.
In the same development, Tinubu named Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe. Other principal officers appointed include Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.
Prof. Yakasai, a retired Colonel from the Nigerian Army, is the Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano, and chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria.
He has also served as Director-General of the Hospitals Management Board, Kano State.
He earned his MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and later won a European Economic Commission scholarship to the United Kingdom, where he became a member and fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
He also holds a Master’s in Medical Education from the University of Winchester, as well as fellowships from the International College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
