The Orunto Baalufe is one of the most significant chieftaincy titles in the Owu Kingdom, Abeokuta, Ogun State, serving as a custodian of tradition and a kingmaker in the ancient city.
The holder of the title occupies the third position in hierarchy among the Owu Iwarefa, a group of high-ranking chiefs central to decision-making and governance in the kingdom.
The current Orunto Baalufe is Chief Abiodun Lasile, a cultural promoter and initiator of The SixthSense Initiative.
He was elected in June 2023 and formally presented to HRM Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Abeokuta. His coronation took place on 22nd September 2023 at the Owu Palace, Oke Ago-Owu, Abeokuta.
Beyond his traditional duties, Chief Abiodun Lasile has embraced innovation by launching a digital platform, Orunto Owu Abeokuta, aimed at documenting and showcasing the rich customs, traditions, and history of the Owu Kingdom to the world.
This initiative reflects his commitment to ensuring that Owu’s cultural heritage is not only preserved but also made accessible to younger generations and the global community.
The Owu Kingdom, one of the major components of the Egba settlement in Abeokuta, remains a bastion of Yoruba culture, history, and tradition. Through the Orunto Baalufe title and the vision of its present holder, the kingdom continues to celebrate its identity and strengthen its cultural pride.
