The Nigeria Police Force has intensified its crackdown on crime, apprehending multiple suspects, including a murder suspect and a group of traffic robbers, while recovering dangerous weapons.

The arrests, made in separate operations across Lagos, underscore the Force’s commitment to strengthening public safety and national security.

One of the arrests was made by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command’s Satellite Division on February 7, 2025, when a 24-year-old suspect, Wisdom Obi, was intercepted at the Abule Ado bus stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Amuwo Odofin.

Obi, who was riding an unregistered motorcycle, was found in possession of a brownie pistol and 13 rounds of live ammunition concealed inside an MP3 radio. He was immediately taken into custody, while the motorcycle and recovered items were documented as exhibits.

Confirming the development, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that investigations into the case were ongoing and assured that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law. He reiterated the Force’s resolve to rid the country of criminal elements.

In another operation, officers from the Orile Iganmu Division arrested four suspected traffic robbers—Kadir Ibrahim, Ifeanyin John, Oduwole Shola, and Rilwan Olajuwon—while they attempted to rob passengers of a broken-down vehicle in the Ascon White Sand area.

The police cautioned commuters to remain vigilant, noting that criminals often disguise themselves as traffic traders to prey on unsuspecting victims stuck in congested areas.

Meanwhile, a murder suspect, Okeke Johnchris, has also been taken into custody after allegedly using his Lexus saloon car to ram into 33-year-old William Wisdom during a heated altercation at Falomo Square, Ikoyi, on February 5.

The victim, who was rushed to Gbagada General Hospital, later succumbed to his injuries. Detectives transported his remains to the IDH Morgue in Yaba for an autopsy as investigations continue.

Reacting to the incidents, Adejobi urged citizens to be mindful of criminals’ evolving tactics and to avoid engaging in violent confrontations.

“The Force remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, working diligently to combat crime while upholding the fundamental principles of justice,” he stated.

He also advised Nigerians to seek legal avenues for conflict resolution rather than resorting to violence, emphasizing that taking the law into one’s own hands could have severe consequences.
