The contractor handling the 260-meter Paddy Arikawe Igbimo Road in Sagamu, proposed by Ogun East Senator Gbenga Daniel, has finally bowed to the directive of the Ogun State Government by adopting its recommended engineering specifications and standards.

This development follows a directive from the Ogun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure in a letter dated September 22, 2025, which ordered the contractor, Minim and Tonye, to halt construction activities until it secured the necessary approvals and complied with state engineering standards.

In its latest letter dated Friday, September 26, and addressed to the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, the contractor, through its Director, Abimbola Ayodeji, confirmed its acceptance of all specifications outlined by the state government.

The firm stated that it had also been directed by the Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) the executing agency to commence drainage works in line with the approved design.

According to the new specification, the drainage will now be 600mm x 600mm reinforced concrete with Grade 25 concrete, ensuring uniformity with the existing drainage system within the area.

Earlier, the Ogun State Government had expressed concern that the initial drawings submitted by the contractor did not meet the Federal Ministry of Works standard for road design, particularly in the areas of drainage and concrete pavement.

The Ministry, therefore, issued a formal observation letter on September 22, requesting necessary corrections before granting final approval.

The government’s recommendations included the use of Grade 20 concrete for binding, Grade 25 concrete for reinforced concrete base, walks, and deck, and Grade 35 or 40 concrete for a 220mm thick reinforced concrete pavement an upgrade from the 150mm thick Grade 20 concrete earlier proposed.

It also insisted that the stone base must not be less than 200mm, and that the contractor must provide full design layouts, elevation and grade details, reinforcement drawings, material testing reports, and design criteria codes for quality assurance.

The Ogun State Ministry of Works welcomed the contractor’s compliance, describing it as a positive step toward ensuring durable infrastructure development across the state.
