The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Monday.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad on what he described as a “historic milestone” in the nation’s democratic journey, urging citizens to remain united and patriotic as the country continues to navigate its path to development.
He said, “Since 1960, the spirit of unity and resilience has kept us together as one indivisible nation. I urge all Nigerians to continue upholding these values as we work towards a stronger and more prosperous country.”
The minister also encouraged Nigerians to sustain their faith in Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is anchored on national rebirth, economic growth, and collective prosperity.
According to him, with the cooperation and commitment of all citizens, Nigeria will continue to advance in peace, progress, and development.
“I wish all Nigerians a happy and memorable 65th Independence Day celebration,” Tunji-Ojo added.
Nigeria gained independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and has since marked the day with national celebrations, reflection, and calls for unity.
This year’s commemoration comes at a time the nation is grappling with economic challenges, security concerns, and ongoing debates on governance reforms.
