The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling for the immediate release of the Ago-Iwoye Community Hospital to the management of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, for effective management and revitalization of the facility to enhance quality healthcare delivery to residents of Ago-Iwoye and its environs.

The resolution followed a motion moved by the sponsor, Hon. Olusegun Kaka Odunuga, representing Ijebu North II State Constituency, and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, with the full support of other lawmakers through a unanimous voice vote during Tuesday’s plenary session in Abeokuta.

While leading the debate on the motion, Hon. Odunuga stressed the importance of the hospital to the people of Ago-Iwoye and neighboring communities.

He said, “The Ago-Iwoye Community Hospital has the capacity to serve as a major healthcare hub for our people if it is properly managed. The decision to hand over the facility to OOUTH is a collective demand of all stakeholders and residents in my constituency who are desirous of better health services.”

He added that the collaboration would bring professional oversight, access to qualified personnel, and improved facilities under the supervision of a tertiary health institution.

Supporting the motion, the Minority Leader, Hon. Lukman Adeleye, commended the initiative, describing it as a step in the right direction.

According to him, “Bringing the hospital under OOUTH’s management will strengthen healthcare delivery in Ago-Iwoye and reduce the pressure on other state hospitals. It will also ensure easy referrals and access to specialized treatment for residents.”

Also contributing, Honourables Damilola Soneye and Babatunde Tella expressed optimism that the move would improve healthcare accessibility in the region.

Hon. Soneye noted, “Many communities in that axis are underserved in terms of healthcare. This decision will bridge that gap and save lives.”

In another development, a bill seeking to establish the Ogun State Boundary Commission and related matters scaled first reading on the floor of the House.

The Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin, read the short title of the bill before the lawmakers, marking the beginning of legislative consideration on the proposed law.
