The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued Nigeria’s first Aerodrome Operational Permit (AOP) to the Gateway International Airport, Ilisan-Iperu, Ogun State, while the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has also cleared the Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) on Runway 23 of the facility for unrestricted use.

This was contained in a press release signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Ogun State Governor, Tayo Mabeweje, on Thursday.

According to the statement, the NCAA certification and NAMA calibration mark a historic breakthrough in Nigeria’s aviation industry, as no other airport in the country has attained such recognition under the current regulatory framework.

Governor Dapo Abiodun described the milestone as a validation of his administration’s vision to transform Ogun into a hub for commerce, investment, and global connectivity.

“This achievement is not just for Ogun State but for Nigeria as a whole. The Gateway International Airport is a symbol of progress and a new benchmark for aviation infrastructure,” he said.

The statement further explained that the successful flight inspection carried out by NAMA on September 4 confirmed the ILS/DME system as “totally satisfactory in all respects,” thereby guaranteeing safer landings and smoother operations.
