The 2025 SWAN Security Cup has received a major boost as Lafarge Africa, ValueJet Nigeria, and the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA) threw their weight behind the annual inter-agency football competition in Ogun State.
Lafarge Africa, one of Nigeria’s leading cement manufacturers, will provide branded kits for the four semi-finalist teams.
Speaking on the company’s contribution, Lafarge’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ginikanwa Frank-Durugbor, said the support reflects the company’s dedication to fostering unity and promoting well-being among security personnel in its host communities.
“We recognise the vital role security agencies play in maintaining peace and order in Ogun State.”
“By supporting the SWAN Security Cup, we are encouraging camaraderie, promoting healthy rivalry, and reinforcing our commitment to the peaceful coexistence of the communities where we operate,” Frank-Durugbor stated.
On its part, ValueJet Nigeria, led by Chief Executive Officer Hon. Kunle Soname, donated prize money for the finalists.
Soname explained that the airline’s support aligns with its vision of encouraging youth engagement and celebrating the commitment of security operatives through sports.
“Sports have the power to unite people and inspire greatness,” Soname said. “Supporting the SWAN Security Cup is part of our long-standing effort to strengthen social harmony and reward dedication.”
Also pledging support, the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, under the leadership of Dr. Adedeji Ashiru, promised to provide bottled water, palm oil, and other local produce for the finals.
Dr. Ashiru noted that the agency’s contribution demonstrates its concern for the welfare and wellness of security operatives who play key roles in safeguarding the state.
Chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, expressed appreciation to the sponsors, describing their gesture as a reflection of the importance of public-private partnerships in promoting sports and community development.
According to him, “The support from Lafarge Africa, ValueJet, and OORBDA shows how collective efforts can strengthen unity and drive social growth through sports. We are grateful for their confidence in the SWAN Security Cup and what it represents.”
