Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has approved the appointment of his elder brother, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri, as the first Emir of the newly created Duguri Emirate, with a first-class status.
The announcement was contained in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Aminu Hammayo, who presented the letter of appointment to the new Emir on Friday in Bauchi.
Hammayo explained that the appointment followed due process and was made in line with the Bauchi State Chieftaincy Appointment and Deposition Law, 2025, particularly sections 16 and 17.
In his remarks after receiving the letter, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri described the appointment as “the fulfilment of a long-long dream for the people of Duguri,” expressing gratitude to Allah and the state government for the honour.
The retired Assistant Controller of Customs, who currently serves as chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (BA-SUBEB), promised to uphold peace, unity, and justice within his domain.
He also assured that his reign would focus on supporting the state government’s initiatives in education, health, and security.
According to him, “Education remains the bedrock of development. I will ensure that every child in Duguri Emirate has access to quality education while working to strengthen healthcare delivery and maintain peace and harmony among our people.”
While calling for unity, the new Emir urged residents to work together for the progress of Duguri and Bauchi State at large.
During the ceremony, Emir Duguri conferred the traditional title of ‘Yariman Duguri’ on Governor Bala Mohammed in appreciation of his role in the creation of the new emirate.
The SSG, Alhaji Hammayo, reminded the Emir of his duty to uphold fairness and integrity, stressing that the appointment demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions as partners in community development and grassroots governance.
Governor Mohammed had earlier signed into law a bill establishing 13 new emirates and one chiefdom across the state, with Duguri among those created to bring governance closer to the people.
