Two distinguished scholars, Prof. Farooq Kperogi and Prof. Godwin Oyedokun, will on Sunday, November 9, 2025, dissect Nigeria’s growing economic contradiction—why citizens continue to face worsening hardship despite reported drops in food prices.

The discussion, which will headline the 37th edition of the monthly interactive session Boiling Point Arena, seeks to unravel what many Nigerians describe as a confusing paradox of “cheaper food and harder life.”

The global discourse, which will hold via Zoom at 8pm, will be transmitted live on six radio stations across Lagos, Ogun, and Delta States. The session is hosted by veteran journalist and public relations expert, Dr. Ayo Arowojolu.

Tagged “Economic Narratives Vs Lived Realities: Measuring the Real Impact of Government Policies on Household Survival in Nigeria,” the programme aims to interrogate the true impact of government’s economic policies on citizens’ standard of living.

Kperogi, a renowned columnist and Professor of Communication and Emerging Media at Kennesaw State University, USA, is expected to provide insight into the media and perception angle of the conversation.

Prof. Oyedokun, a respected scholar in forensic accounting, taxation, and financial development at Lead City University, Ibadan, will bring his expertise to bear on the economic and fiscal implications of Nigeria’s current policies.

Also joining the discourse as Chairman and Keynote Speaker is the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola, who will set the tone for the conversation.

According to the organisers, the episode will focus on the big question that resonates with many households: “Why is life harder when food is cheaper?”

The discussion promises to explore the mystery behind declining food inflation amid rising poverty, examining the wider economic realities that shape household survival across the country.

The session will be broadcast live on WASH 94.9FM, Sweet 107.1FM, Roots 97.1FM, Erimbe 94.7FM, Women Radio 91.7FM, and Kruzz 92.9FM, as well as on NSTV (GoTV Channel 316).

Boiling Point is a news and general interest platform that brings together eminent Nigerians, including over 300 professors, media professionals, technocrats, jurists, traditional rulers, and security experts, to engage in meaningful national conversations.
