Speaking at a paper presentation titled “Preserving The Egba Legacy: The Youth as Custodian of Heritage and Culture” at the Abeokuta Club on Thursday, 30th October, 2025, Chief Lasile said, “Concerns are growing louder as both young and old minds worry about the future. It’s a pressing issue that affects us all, and it’s about our collective tomorrow.”

He traced the historical roots of the Egba people back to the medieval era, noting the struggles of Lisabi and the liberation efforts of the Oyo Empire, saying, “The Lisabi time and struggle didn’t get to Odo Ona, but its lessons live with us. Our roots run deeper than 1830, and our history continues to shape who we are today.”

Chief Lasile highlighted the importance of Egba stakeholding, describing it as having financial, emotional, and community interests in the development of the Egba project.

He noted that these values have motivated generations to contribute to collective growth and unity.

He further urged youths to actively participate in cultural preservation through education, mentorship, and involvement in festivals such as the Lisabi Day Festival and Egba Egungun festival.

“The youth are the vibrant custodians of our heritage. By learning, innovating, and sharing our culture, they ensure that our legacy continues to thrive for generations to come,” he added.

The presentation also emphasized sustainable development initiatives, including the Adire Village Project and partnerships with local enterprises, aimed at promoting economic, social, and environmental growth within Egba communities.

Chief Lasile concluded by stressing the role of knowledge, modernization, and mutual cooperation, saying, “Preserving the Egba legacy requires a conscious effort, mentorship, and active involvement from everyone, especially our youth, who are the torchbearers of our culture and values.”
