Lagos State Police Command has arrested 12 suspects in connection with an unauthorised Egungun festival in Oregun, which reportedly circulated handbills and social media posts aimed at restricting public movement.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the materials, attributed to a group called “Oje Parapo of Oregun,” contained warnings that created fear among residents ahead of the scheduled festival on 27th and 28th November 2025.
Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, directed the immediate suspension of the event, citing the risk it posed to public peace. “No individual or group has the right to obstruct movement or control the liberties of residents,” he warned.
The police noted that similar activities had been reported in Mafoluku, Oshodi, on 23rd November, prompting a swift response. The arrested suspects are currently under investigation and will be prosecuted on completion.
CP Jimoh further stressed that no festival likely to destabilise public peace would be allowed in the state.
