A tragic incident struck Government Girls Science and Technical College (GGSTC), Potiskum, Yobe State, as a classroom corridor collapsed, killing one student and injuring four others.
The collapse occurred around 12 noon on Thursday, just as students were preparing to go for their lunch break.
Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Bukar Aji, stated that the injured SSII students are receiving treatment at Specialist Hospital, Potiskum.
“We deeply sympathize with the family of the deceased and those injured. The government remains committed to ensuring the safety of all school structures to prevent such occurrences in the future,” Aji assured.
He further disclosed that the State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has been tasked with investigating the root cause of the collapse and providing recommendations for preventing future incidents.
