An Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, has died unexpectedly in Ebonyi State.
The incident occurred around 11 am on Tuesday while he was attending a management meeting at the command headquarters in Abakaliki.
A police source said Popoola, who was the officer in charge of the State Intelligence Department, suddenly experienced breathing difficulties and began gasping for air during the meeting.
He was immediately rushed to the Police Medical Centre at the Police Headquarters, where medical personnel attended to him.
Despite efforts to resuscitate him, doctors confirmed his death. Preliminary medical findings indicated that he died of cardiac arrest related to hypertensive heart disease.
His remains have been deposited at the morgue of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki. DSP Joshua Ukandu, the police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the incident, describing the late officer as dedicated and professional.
Popoola was reportedly not known to have been ill prior to the incident.
