Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has paid tribute to fallen soldiers, describing their sacrifice as pivotal to the peace and unity currently enjoyed in the country.
The governor made the remarks during the special parade and wreath-laying ceremony to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Represented by his deputy, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Abiodun commended the courage and patriotism of soldiers who paid the supreme price in service of the nation.
“I commend the gallant officers and men of the Nigerian Army. Your professionalism, discipline and commitment to duty continue to underpin the peace and stability we enjoy in Ogun State and across the country. We do not take your sacrifices for granted,” he said.
On the importance of recognising fallen heroes, the governor said, “Fallen heroes and war veterans deserve to be honoured, noting that the peace and unity currently enjoyed in the country were products of their patriotism and sacrifice.”
He also reaffirmed his administration’s support for the families of deceased soldiers, saying, “While praying for the repose of the souls of the fallen soldiers and officers of the Nigerian Army, we assure that our administration will continue to prioritise the welfare of the families they left behind.”
Abiodun added that the annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration remained one of the ways the government honours heroes past, “despite the security challenges confronting the nation.”
