The Ogun State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what it described as deliberate and consistent efforts to improve teachers’ welfare and strengthen leadership across public secondary schools in the state.

The union said the administration’s approach to education has created a more supportive environment for teachers while positioning the sector for long term growth and stability.

ASUSS made this known in an appreciation letter jointly signed by its State Chairman, Comrade Oluwaseun Felix Agbesanwa, and State Secretary, Comrade Oluseyi Bankole. The letter, which was made available to the media, noted that the Abiodun administration is on course to leave the education sector in a better state than it met it.

The union particularly applauded the recent appointment of two Principal Generals, describing the move as a clear indication of the government’s commitment to strengthening administrative leadership in public secondary schools. According to ASUSS, effective leadership at the school level is critical to improving teaching standards and overall academic performance.

ASUSS congratulated Mr Mathew Osilesi on his appointment as Principal General of Remo Division and Mr Yakubu Lamidi as Principal General of Ijebu Division. The union urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by discharging their responsibilities with dedication, professionalism and fairness.

“On behalf of over 10,000 secondary school teachers in Ogun State, we assure Your Excellency of our total loyalty, support and unwavering backing at all times. Your teacher friendly posture has restored hope and dignity to the teaching profession in Ogun State,” the union stated.

The teachers’ body also commended the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi, and the Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya, for their roles in ensuring that teachers’ concerns receive attention under the present administration.

ASUSS further praised the Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission, Apostle Abiodun Sanyaolu, noting that three education officers were elevated under his leadership in the latest round of appointments. The union assured the TESCOM chairman of its continued cooperation in efforts aimed at strengthening secondary school education in the state.

It also congratulated all newly sworn in appointees and urged them to serve with humility, compassion and a strong sense of responsibility.

“Once again, we appreciate the governor for his responsive leadership and commitment to teachers’ welfare. Ogun teachers remain resolutely behind this administration,” the union added.
