The Ogun State Government and the Ijebu Ode Local Government have denied reports circulating on social media alleging the suspension of some prominent Ijebu traditional chiefs, describing the claims as false, misleading, and deliberately crafted to cause tension within Ijebu land.
The denial was contained in a joint press release issued by the Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Ijebu Ode Local Government, signed by the Chairman of the council, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat.
The statement clarified that no decision had been taken to suspend the Kakanfo of Ijebu land, Chief Abimbola Okenla, the Lapoekun of Ijebu land, Chief Tunde Odulaja, or the Madasa of Ijebu land, Chief Lekan Oshifeso, from the Ijebu Council of Chiefs or any other recognized traditional body.
According to the authorities, no recognised traditional institution or the Ogun State Government approved or initiated such action, stressing that the report was the work of mischief makers bent on sowing confusion and disharmony in the ancient town.
The government further explained that chieftaincy matters in the state are guided strictly by established laws, customs, and due process, none of which has been invoked in respect of the named chiefs.
Residents and members of the public were therefore urged to disregard the report and seek information only from official government channels, particularly on sensitive issues relating to traditional institutions.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to peace, respect for traditional institutions, and the preservation of harmony across communities in Ogun State.
