No fewer than four traders have been kidnapped by suspected gunmen in a fresh attack in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The traders were said to be returning home on Friday evening after purchasing goods at the popular Maro market when they were ambushed along the Maro to Kajuru road. A local source confirmed that the assailants struck swiftly, forcing the victims into the bush before escaping.

The latest incident has heightened fears in the area, coming barely days after more than 100 worshippers were abducted in Kurmin Wali, also in Kajuru Local Government Area, where security agencies are still working to secure their release.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the Northern chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev John Hayab, said he was yet to officially confirm the incident but urged the government and security agencies to act decisively.

“We want to appeal to government to be strong and go after the criminal elements that want to cause problems in the state. Some people want to cause confusion in the state,” Hayab said.

A senior government official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said authorities were awaiting full details from security agencies before issuing an official response.

“You remember what happened with the Kurmin Wali incident. I have spoken with security chiefs in the state and I am waiting for their confirmation before making any official statement on this matter,” the official stated.

Efforts to get a reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, did not respond to calls as of press time.
