The Ward Development Committee (WDC), Ogun State Council, has called on residents across the state to give maximum support to the forthcoming Measles Rubella Vaccination campaign, stressing that community participation is key to protecting children from preventable diseases.
The State Chairman of the WDC, Asiwaju Dapo Wahab, made the call in Abeokuta ahead of the statewide immunisation exercise scheduled to hold from Tuesday, January 27 to February 5, 2026.
Wahab urged WDC members in the 20 local government areas of the state to intensify grassroots mobilisation and sensitisation, particularly at the ward level, to ensure that all eligible children are reached during the exercise.
He said WDC members must work closely with community leaders, school authorities, religious institutions and other relevant stakeholders to guarantee that children aged nine months to 14 years are presented for vaccination.
“Measles and rubella are preventable childhood diseases, yet they still pose serious risks to our children. The success of this campaign depends largely on how well communities are informed and mobilised,” Wahab said.
According to him, WDC structures, as community based platforms, have a critical responsibility to ensure that no eligible child is left out of the exercise.
The WDC chairman expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment shown by members of the Ogun State Council towards the Measles Rubella Vaccination campaign, describing the collaboration as a reflection of the council’s dedication to strengthening primary healthcare delivery and improving child survival outcomes in the state.
He also commended the Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, the Ministry of Health and the Ogun State Government for their sustained support and partnership with WDC structures across the state.
Wahab noted that the collaboration has contributed significantly to improvements in health facilities and service delivery across wards in Ogun State.
He reassured residents of the council’s readiness to continue supporting government health interventions and appealed to parents, caregivers and guardians to cooperate fully with health workers throughout the vaccination period.
“The cooperation of parents and caregivers is crucial. Together, we can ensure a healthier and safer future for our children and for Ogun State as a whole,” he added.
