The prestigious Abeokuta Polo Club is set to host a groundbreaking ceremony for its highly anticipated legacy project on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

The event will take place at the Abeokuta Polo Club and Resorts, situated along the Abeokuta-Shagamu Expressway in Kobape, Ogun State.

The ceremony will be graced by prominent traditional rulers, with the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, serving as the chairman of the day.

Other esteemed royal fathers expected to be in attendance include His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Adewale Adedapo Tejuoso, CON, Osile Oke-Ona Egba, Karounwi III; His Royal Majesty Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, FNSE, Otileta VII; Olowu Oluyalo of Owu Kingdom Abeokuta; and representatives from the Agura community.

The Abeokuta Polo Club’s legacy project is designed as a multi-faceted development that will blend sports, culture, health, and tourism into a world-class hub.

Among the features of the project are dedicated polo grounds spanning 17 acres, equestrian facilities, resort estates, an arts and culture centre, royal courts, an amphitheatre, a trauma centre, and expansive green areas reserved for nature conservation.

“This legacy project is a testament to the Abeokuta Polo Club’s commitment to developing world-class facilities that promote sports, culture, and community development,” said Chief Dr. Abiodun Lasile, Orunto Baalufe of Owu Kingdom Abeokuta and Chairman of the Groundbreaking Committee.

Dr. Sheriff Adams, President of the Abeokuta Polo Club, extended an open invitation to the public, dignitaries, and friends of the club to witness the historical event.

“We look forward to sharing this momentous occasion with the community and stakeholders. It marks a bold step toward transforming our club into a heritage destination,” he stated.

The ceremony is expected to attract guests from across Nigeria and beyond, reinforcing Abeokuta’s growing reputation as a centre for cultural and recreational advancement.
