Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the death of the Director of Programmes at Ogun State Television, OGTV, Alhaji Akeem Akintunde, as a major loss to the state and the media industry.
In a condolence statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the governor said the late veteran broadcaster was a distinguished media professional whose contributions to sports journalism and broadcast management would remain enduring.
Abiodun noted that Akintunde, who was also a former Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, was a thoroughbred professional and an accomplished administrator who discharged his duties with uncommon dedication and discipline.
The governor recalled that even while battling serious health challenges, including kidney-related ailments, the late broadcaster remained committed to his responsibilities, adding that his passion for sports broadcasting and mentoring younger professionals stood him out as a model within the industry.
He described Akintunde as warm, pleasant, and highly respected among colleagues, stressing that his death after a prolonged illness marked the end of a remarkable career built on excellence, passion, and professionalism.
“As a media professional, Alhaji Akeem Akintunde was an outstanding personality, pleasant to be with and completely dedicated to his job. He was a manager of managers, a mentor to many, and a shining light in journalism and sports reporting,” the governor said.
“His passage marks the end of a remarkable career built on dedication, excellence, and unwavering commitment to the profession.”
Abiodun extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, his friends, colleagues, and the entire OGTV community, describing Akintunde as a gem whose absence would be deeply felt across the state.
“We have lost a source of joy, professionalism, and inspiration. May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus and comfort all those he left behind,” the governor added.
