The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed recent reports claiming he was hospitalised in London. He described these rumours as false narratives spread on social media.
Akpabio made the clarification during a meeting in London with Senator Gbenga Daniel, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy and former Governor of Ogun State. Daniel represents Ogun East under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During the meeting, Daniel informed Akpabio of his plans to return to Nigeria to contest in the upcoming bye-election scheduled for August 16. The election will fill the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency seat, left vacant after the death of the former Deputy Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adewumi Onanuga.
Daniel expressed relief on seeing Akpabio in good health, saying, “The news out there is that you have been indisposed, but seeing you here now paints a very different picture. Congratulations, Your Excellency.”
In a statement released by Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President thanked Daniel for the visit and expressed confidence that the APC would retain the House of Representatives seat in Ogun State.
Akpabio said, “If you listen to the social media, you will go to war.” He urged people to be cautious about misinformation regarding his health.
He also congratulated Daniel in advance, adding, “You have all it takes to retain that Federal Constituency seat for our great party. You are from there and interestingly, the Governor is also from there, so I don’t harbour any fear.”
