The Army Council has approved the promotion of 105 senior officers, confirming new ranks for 28 Brigadiers General and 77 Colonels across various formations and units.

The announcement was issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt Col Appolonia Anele. She explained that the elevation reflects the commitment of the Nigerian Army to reward professionalism and outstanding service.

Those promoted to Major General include Brig Gen O Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency, Brig Gen S M Uba who serves as Director of Defence Information, Brig Gen R E Hedima who is the Acting Chief of Military Intelligence Army and Brig Gen R T Utsaha, the Deputy Director of Defence Operations.

Others on the list are Brig Gen A M Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy, Brig Gen S Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary Army, Brig Gen I O Bassey, Director of the Nigerian Army Operations Centre and Brig Gen C A Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

Also promoted were Brig Gen S Y Yakasai who serves as Acting Director of Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff, Brig Gen W L Nzidee of the Department of Army Logistics, Brig Gen S A Emmanuel of the Nigerian Army Signals and Brig Gen S S Tilawan, Acting Commander of Sector Three Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai.

Others include Brig Gen M O Agi who serves as Desk Officer TETFUND at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Brig Gen I M Abbas who commands the 34 Brigade and Brig Gen Z A Saidu who was promoted posthumously.

Officers elevated from Colonel to Brigadier General include Colonels Y Ibrahim of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, N N Gambo of the Department of Civil Military Affairs and A Saidu of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps. Others are Colonels A Ali of Army Headquarters Garrison, I Waziri of the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff, M M Sani of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji and A A Alkali of the Nigerian Army Dog Centre.

Additional beneficiaries are Colonels A O Ndah of the Department of Army Training, I B Sheriff of Headquarters 9 Brigade, K R Apata of the Provost Group, M K Akpuogwu of Operation Whirl Stroke and P U Nnaji of the Operations Monitoring Support Team. The list continues with Colonels M T Nagudu of the Armour School, K O Bukoye who commands the 401 Special Forces Brigade, O Adole of the Nigerian Army Medical Corps and several others serving in various medical and operational units.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, congratulated the newly promoted officers and their families. He urged them to approach their new responsibilities with renewed dedication.

He said, “Your elevation is a call to serve with deeper commitment. I expect you to show leadership through your conduct and deliver solutions that respond quickly to the nation’s security challenges.”

He reminded them that their loyalty to the Constitution and their oath to defend Nigeria must remain firm. He added that the Army will continue to place professionalism at the centre of its operations.
