Arsenal booked their place in the EFL Cup final in dramatic fashion after Kai Havertz struck deep into stoppage time to secure a 1–0 win over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night, sealing a 4–2 aggregate victory in the semi final clash.

Holding a slim advantage from the first leg, the Gunners dominated possession for much of the encounter but were made to work hard by a disciplined Chelsea side that set up with a compact back five. The first half ended goalless, with clear chances at a premium as both teams approached the tie cautiously, aware of what was at stake.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior attempted to change the narrative in the second half, introducing attacking options including Cole Palmer and Estevao in a bid to force an equaliser and drag the contest into extra time. Despite the changes, Arsenal remained composed, showing defensive maturity and limiting Chelsea to speculative efforts from distance.

As the match edged towards a tense conclusion, the Emirates Stadium braced for extra time. However, in the seventh minute of added time, Arsenal found their breakthrough. Declan Rice released Kai Havertz, who rounded goalkeeper Robert Sanchez with confidence before calmly slotting the ball into the net, sparking wild celebrations among the home supporters.

The late goal underlined Arsenal’s growing belief under Mikel Arteta, who is guiding the club through a season of strong domestic and European form. Speaking through their performance, the Gunners once again demonstrated resilience and patience, qualities that have kept them top of the Premier League and competitive across multiple competitions.

For Chelsea, the defeat brought a cruel end to an improved display compared to the first leg. Rosenior’s tactical adjustments largely neutralised Arsenal’s attacking threat for long spells, but the Blues were ultimately undone by a moment of quality in the closing seconds.

Arsenal will now turn their attention to Wembley, where they will face either Manchester City or Newcastle United in next month’s final. It will be their first League Cup final appearance since 2018 and another opportunity to claim major silverware after years of near misses.
