The Ogun State Government has commenced registration towards the disbursement of N500 million in business and industrial grants targeted at artisans and small-scale business owners across the state.

Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Mr. Ademola Balogun, made this known during his appearance before the State House of Assembly Committee on Community Development and Cooperatives.

The session formed part of the ongoing 2025 mid-year budget performance appraisal held at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Balogun commended the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration for prioritising economic empowerment. He noted that the grant initiative aims to support local enterprises, boost self-reliance and promote inclusive socio-economic growth across communities.

“The registration process is already underway, and the disbursement will be carried out transparently,” the Commissioner said. “All categories of qualified artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs will be captured.”

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Dickson Awolaja, applauded the initiative and called for increased government funding to strengthen the cooperative movement and enhance grassroots economic development.

Meanwhile, the House Committee on Youth and Sports, chaired by Hon. Lukman Atobatele, has appraised the performance of the Ministry of Sports Development during its own mid-year review.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Lanre Ogunyinka, while briefing lawmakers, highlighted some key accomplishments including the successful hosting of the 2024 Gateway Games, and the upgrade of major sporting facilities such as the MKO Abiola International Stadium and the Alake Sports Complex.

He added that new Olympic-standard swimming pools and tennis courts have also been constructed, as part of ongoing efforts to elevate sports infrastructure in the state.
