Barcelona secured a record-extending 16th Spanish Super Cup title on Sunday after edging arch rivals Real Madrid 3-2 in a dramatic final played in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
According to AFP, the Catalan giants were inspired by a brace from Raphinha, while Robert Lewandowski also found the net as Barcelona overcame a late scare to retain the trophy.
Madrid pushed hard in the closing stages of the encounter and nearly forced extra time, especially after Barcelona were reduced to ten men following Frenkie de Jong’s dismissal late in the game.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Barcelona held on to seal the victory and celebrate another Super Cup success.
The win further underlined Barcelona’s dominance in the competition, as they extended their lead as the most successful club in Spanish Super Cup history, while Real Madrid were left to rue missed chances in an entertaining El Clasico final.
