Abuja – Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (Retd), has called on the international community to view Nigeria as a nation of immense potential rather than define it by current challenges.
Speaking in a statement he personally signed, Buratai said the narrative of Nigeria as a failing state is a “profound misreading” of its history and character.
He cited the country’s enduring resilience, resourcefulness, and the achievements of past and present leaders as proof that Nigeria is on a path of growth.
“The world does not need more contingency plans for Nigeria’s collapse; it needs robust partnership plans for Nigeria’s inevitable rise,” Buratai said.
He added that the nation’s journey from independence to becoming Africa’s largest economy demonstrates its capacity to overcome challenges.
Buratai highlighted the contributions of Nigeria’s founding leaders, including Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as well as the resilience shown during military and democratic eras.
He also noted the emergence of a new generation of leaders in government, private sector, civil society, and technology who are committed to national unity.
He urged both Nigerians and global partners to see the country as a formidable partner with “boundless future potential” rather than focusing on insecurity and economic headwinds.
“Nigeria cannot and will not fail, by the grace of God. We are rising,” Buratai said.
