The rift between former Ogun State governor, Senator Gbenga Daniel, and the state government took a fresh twist on Monday when officials sealed multiple properties linked to the lawmaker.
The affected facilities include the sprawling Asoludero Court, the Conference Hotels, and its annex, all located in the Sagamu Government Reserved Area.
The move came just three days after the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority issued contravention and quit notices over alleged breaches of the state’s Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022.
Officials from the Sagamu Zonal Office stormed the premises mid-morning, pasting fresh “Sealing” and “Demolition” notices on gates and walls.
The development unfolded shortly after journalists left a press conference held at Asoludero Court, where the earlier notices were condemned.
One of the notices warned, “Sequel to our previous Notice of Contravention, Notice to Stop Work, and Notice to Quit served on you/the development, to which you have not responded, your development/property is hereby sealed off forthwith preparatory for its demolition.
Please note that the Authority will not be liable for any loss suffered by you or claim for compensation whatsoever during the period the property/development is under seal. You are warned not to break the seal or tamper with it in any way whatsoever.”
Last Friday, the Authority had directed the owners to produce all relevant planning permits within 24 hours or face demolition, further instructing that the land be restored to its original state if the contravention remained unresolved.
The notices, bearing the same date for sealing and demolition, have intensified tensions between the state government and Daniel, now representing Ogun East in the Senate.
