In response to recent unrest in Ido Ayegunle, the Osun State government has unveiled official documents to substantiate the appointment of the new Olojudo, emphasizing adherence to established procedures and vowing to prosecute individuals responsible for recent violence.

A 2005 state gazette designates the Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland as the prescribed authority over Ido Ayegunle, a role previously misattributed to the Owamiran of Esa-Oke.

Further documentation from 2014 indicates the elevation of the Olojudo stool to Part II Recognized Status, with the Owa Obokun serving as the consenting authority.

Chief Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, stated, “The Adeleke administration has strictly adhered to due process, as evidenced by pre-existing legal and administrative documents.”

He detailed that the State Executive Council’s recent approval of the new Olojudo aligns with these established protocols.

Historical records reveal that in 1995, a communal clash between Esa-Oke and Ido Ayegunle resulted in casualties and property damage following the appointment of Samuel Adekanmi Ajayi as Baale by the then Owa Obokun. A subsequent 1998 government inquiry confirmed the Owa Obokun’s authority over Ido Ayegunle, a decision ratified by the State Executive Council in 2005.

After the passing of Oba Samuel Adekanmi Ajayi in October 2021, the selection process for a successor commenced. Prince Ajayi Oluwatimileyin Oluyemi emerged as the Olojudo-elect, receiving unanimous support from the kingmakers of Ido Ayegunle. The State Executive Council validated this selection on January 29, 2025.

In light of recent violence, Governor Ademola Adeleke convened a meeting with the Esa-Oke community, pledging a thorough investigation and accountability for those responsible. He assured residents that all grievances would be addressed and announced plans to establish a panel of inquiry into the crisis.

The Esa-Oke community has urged the state government to reconsider the appointment of Prince Ajayi as the Olojudo, emphasizing the need to restore trust and prevent further tensions. Chief Bamigboye Yinusa Aremu, Chairman of the Esa-Oke Central Union, highlighted the importance of this action in maintaining community harmony.

Reports indicate that during the recent unrest, the Owamiran of Esa-Oke, Oba Adeyemi Adeniran, narrowly escaped harm as part of his palace and vehicle were set ablaze by assailants.

The state government has reiterated its commitment to peace and justice, emphasizing that the appointment of the new Olojudo was conducted in accordance with established laws and traditions.
