The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old girl, Esther Gambo, for allegedly killing two children and abducting a five-month-old baby in Boi village, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Esther, a native of Gombe State, was said to have drugged her friend, Aisha Abdullahi, with a harmful liquid substance mixed with zobo. After the victim became unconscious, Esther allegedly threw her two daughters—aged five and three—into a well, where they drowned. She then fled with Aisha’s five-month-old baby to Jos, Plateau State.
Parading the suspect at the Command Headquarters on Thursday, Commissioner of Police Auwal Mohammed said the suspect initially denied the crime but later confessed during police investigation. The two children’s bodies were recovered from the well and deposited at the General Hospital Mortuary in Daban Kasuwa for autopsy.
Esther was traced and arrested in Jos, where she had been hiding with the baby. According to the police, she intended to keep the baby as her own.
Meanwhile, the CP also disclosed that 16 suspects were arrested in connection with a violent protest in Toro town. The unrest followed the death of a 17-year-old girl under mysterious circumstances. The protest reportedly led to attacks on worship centres and other properties.
The police say calm has been restored and investigations are ongoing.
