Abeokuta – The Federal College of Education (FCE), Abeokuta, will celebrate its 50th Founder’s Day Anniversary alongside the 26th Combined Convocation for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 sets, with several distinguished Nigerians slated to receive awards for their contributions to governance, arts, and education.

Announcing the honours at a press conference in Abeokuta on Friday, the Provost, Dr. Rafiu Adekola Soyele, said the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Daisi Elemide; juju music legend turned evangelist, Ebenezer Obey; art patron, Yemisi Shyllon; former Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Board of Trustees, Aminu Bello Masari; and the Registrar of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, would be celebrated for their exceptional achievements.

“The College is proud to recognise these Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in service to the nation,” Dr. Soyele said.

The week-long festivities, running from Friday, 6th February to Thursday, 12th February, feature a rich programme of events. Activities began with a press briefing and a special Jumat service, followed by an alumni football match.

Saturday will host Alumni Day, commissioning of alumni projects, lectures, and a reunion. Sunday will feature a special inter-denominational service and thanksgiving.

Monday’s programme includes a jogging and endurance trek, health awareness lectures, medical fitness tests, and another football match.

On Tuesday, the Founding Provost Baba Gani Belo will be celebrated, alongside a convocation play and reminiscences night.

Wednesday features the commissioning of college projects, a convocation lecture by Prof. Josiah Olusegun Ajiboye, entertainment for staff, and a College Award Night.

The celebrations will culminate on Thursday with the commissioning of additional projects, an exhibition, and the convocation proper at the Main Hall. Exhibitions will also run daily from Tuesday to Thursday.

The golden jubilee celebrations and convocation will see the conferment of the Nigeria Certificate in Education and Fellowship awards on the honourees, reflecting FCE Abeokuta’s 50-year legacy of academic excellence and national contribution.
