The Oyo State Police Command on Tuesday welcomed its new Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, who officially assumed duty as the 48th police chief to lead the command.

Haruna’s appointment comes ahead of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election, slated for Saturday, August 16, 2025. He took charge at the state headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, where he addressed officers and the press for the first time in his new capacity.

In his inaugural address, Haruna pledged to build on the security structure laid by his predecessor, with a renewed focus on crime reduction and strengthening community policing.

“The police under my watch will work tirelessly in collaboration with other sister security agencies and residents to ensure that the state remains safe and secure,” he said.

He urged residents to support the command by reporting suspicious activity promptly, assuring that such reports would be acted upon swiftly and decisively.

Haruna commended his predecessor, Johnson Adenola, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police, describing his tenure as impactful and his contributions to security in Oyo State as noteworthy.

The new commissioner also extended appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for what he described as consistent support toward the state’s security efforts.
