The Federal Government has confirmed that suspects arrested in connection with the recent killings in Yelwata, a community in Benue State, will be arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, February 2, 2026.
The confirmation was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Kamarudeen Ogundele, Special Assistant to the President on Communication and Publicity in the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
According to the statement, the planned arraignment follows a thorough investigation carried out through coordinated efforts of relevant government agencies, stressing that those arrested were strongly linked to the violent attacks in the area.
“Some suspects arrested and strongly linked to the killings in Yelwata, a town in Benue State, will be arraigned tomorrow, Monday, February 2, to answer for their crimes,” the statement read.
Ogundele disclosed that the suspects would be tried before Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
He added that the Federal Government was determined to ensure justice for the victims and send a strong warning to individuals or groups involved in violent acts across the country.
“The office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice wishes to assure Nigerians that justice will be ensured in the matter, to send a strong signal to the enemies of the country acting under any guise,” the statement stated.
The statement further reaffirmed the commitment of Tinubu’s administration to the protection of lives and property, noting that safeguarding citizens remains a constitutional responsibility of government.
