France has promised firmer support for Nigeria as the country confronts continued terrorist violence in its northern region.

French President Emmanuel Macron gave the assurance in a message shared on X on Sunday after speaking with Tinubu.

Macron said he reached out to Tinubu to express France’s solidarity with Nigeria at a time when gunmen attacks and kidnappings have drawn worry from international partners.

He explained that his government is ready to work more closely with Nigerian authorities to help protect affected communities.

He wrote, “I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria, @officialABAT. I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North. At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations. We call on all our partners to step up their engagement. No one can remain a spectator.”

Macron said the latest violence in the northern part of the country has made it important for global partners to support Nigeria. He added that France will honour Tinubu’s call for stronger cooperation, especially in securing communities hit by attacks.

His statement comes after several incidents of armed raids and mass abductions in the region. The attacks have drawn global concern and renewed calls for more coordinated international action.

The development also follows recent moves by the federal government to rally international support. On November 20, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth hosted Nigeria’s National Security Advisor, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, at the Pentagon to discuss joint efforts to tackle the crisis.

Nigeria has faced criticism from some foreign governments over its human rights record and handling of insecurity.

The Federal Government has rejected claims of religious persecution, insisting that the violence affects people of all faiths and backgrounds.
