A member of the House of Representatives, Gboyega Isiaka, has officially declared his intention to contest the governorship seat of Ogun State in the 2027 elections.
Isiaka, who represents Imeko-Afon and Yewa North Federal Constituency, made the announcement on Thursday during a live discussion on the current affairs programme, Frontline, on Eagle 102.5 FM in Ijebu-Ode.
The lawmaker, a three-time governorship aspirant in the state, emphasized that his ambition would strictly follow due process and respect the internal democratic structures of his party.
“Yes, I am interested in the governorship. However, this is only the beginning of a process, and it must be approached with patience, discipline, and respect for the structures of the party,” Isiaka said.
“I believe strongly in internal democracy and due process. Any aspiration, no matter how long held or deeply felt, must be tested against established structures and collective judgment. For me, this is about responsibility, order, and service. I will abide fully by the rules of the party and allow the process to take its proper course.”
Isiaka explained that his decision was informed by years of legislative experience and engagement with grassroots concerns, particularly in border communities across Ogun State.
He also highlighted that his focus at the National Assembly remains on effective representation, policy intervention, and addressing issues such as youth unemployment, access to education, and economic hardship.
“Nigeria’s diversity and size require laws that work across different realities. Democracy must function for every voter, regardless of location,” he added, stressing the importance of credible and inclusive electoral processes.
The lawmaker concluded that governance should be judged by its tangible impact on people’s daily lives, from national policy decisions to local development outcomes.
