Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the judiciary as the Ogun State Judiciary celebrates fifty years of service.
Speaking through the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, at the Golden Jubilee event in Abeokuta, he praised the judiciary for its role in promoting justice, upholding the rule of law, and strengthening public confidence across the State.
The Governor described the judiciary as central to democracy, noting, “Without justice, there can be no order. Without integrity, there can be no credibility. Without public trust, there can be no legitimacy.”
He added, “For fifty years, the Ogun State Judiciary has upheld fairness, protected rights, and ensured accountability. This milestone reflects integrity, courage, and commitment to justice.”
Governor Abiodun highlighted his administration’s efforts to strengthen the judiciary, including improvements in infrastructure, enhanced security within court premises, and the introduction of technology to support efficient case management.
He said, “Justice must be dispensed in environments that reflect dignity and professionalism. That is why we continue to provide support for infrastructure, manpower, and welfare for judicial officers and staff.”
In a major development for justice delivery in the State, the Governor announced, “Ogun State has received approval for the Abeokuta Division of the Court of Appeal. The State has provided land for the construction of the Court, six brand new duplexes for the accommodation of Justices, and over twenty bungalows for administrative staff. We are currently working on a date for the ground-breaking ceremony.”
Emphasizing the importance of impartiality, Governor Abiodun urged the judiciary to remain neutral, especially as the nation approaches another election cycle.
“Elections test democratic institutions, and the courts often resolve political disputes. I urge the judiciary of Ogun State to remain impartial and courageous. Do not allow yourselves to be drawn into partisan interests. The credibility of our democracy depends on your neutrality,” he said.
He also encouraged young lawyers and aspiring judicial officers, stating, “Let this anniversary inspire you. Uphold ethical standards. Pursue excellence. Guard your integrity. The robe you may wear tomorrow symbolizes fairness and responsibility.”
The Governor concluded by congratulating the Ogun State Judiciary under the leadership of the Honourable Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, adding, “Together, as the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary, we shall continue to build an Ogun State where justice is accessible, peace is sustained, and development reaches every community.”
