A security guard, David Moses, has confessed to the brutal killing of a school nurse and a 14-month-old baby at Clear Hope Foundation Academy, Dawaki, Abuja, after collecting ₦3 million ransom from the victims’ families.

Moses, who was employed at the school, made the chilling confession while speaking with journalists at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Friday.

According to him, he carried out the act with an accomplice identified as Sunday, who is currently on the run.

The suspect said they initially demanded ₦250 million as ransom but later settled for ₦3 million before killing the victims. He claimed that his accomplice, Sunday, pressured him to murder both the nurse and the child.

“What brought me here is that I killed a child and a nurse in Clear Hope School on July 23. We collected ₦3 million after initially asking for ₦250 million,” Moses confessed.

He said the conflict between him and Sunday escalated after the ransom was paid, leading to a violent fallout.

The nurse, identified as Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, was reportedly lured from her classroom under the pretense of checking something in a toilet where Sunday was hiding.

She was strangled with a rope. The toddler, Nanenter Asher Yese, aged one year and two months, was later killed as well.

“He told me to go and bring the baby too. I said no, but he insisted the ransom wouldn’t be enough if the baby wasn’t included. So I went and brought the baby,” Moses added.

The suspect also revealed that the nurse had shown him kindness prior to the incident, even giving him ₦300 to buy food on the day she was murdered.

The Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, while confirming the incident, said the victims were reported missing on July 23, the same day the ransom demand was made via the caregiver’s phone.

“Despite having killed the victims, the suspects still demanded ₦3 million from the family under the pretence that the victims were alive,” the CP revealed.

In the course of the investigation, the police arrested not only Moses but also the school principal, two other security guards who were meant to be on duty, and the Chief Security Officer of the private security company that deployed Moses to the school.

The company representative, Zachariah Fiyinfoluwa, admitted to lapses in documentation and oversight, including failure to properly record Moses’ employment details and guarantor information.

The police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, Sunday Irimiya, while further investigations continue.
