The Katsina State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public schools across the state following fresh security concerns and reports of rising violence in some communities.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, confirmed the directive on Friday while speaking with journalists.
He said the government took the decision to safeguard students and teachers as security agencies begin a new safety operation in schools.
According to him, the suspension of academic activities is temporary. He explained that most students only have examinations left and that the closure will allow security operatives identify vulnerable areas and strengthen protection across the state.
The action follows recent abductions of schoolchildren in Kebbi and Niger States, incidents that have heightened fear among parents and triggered renewed calls for tighter security within the North West region.
Jibia assured residents that schools will reopen once the review is completed and authorities are confident students can return safely.
The government appealed for calm and urged communities to support security agencies working to restore order.
