A 52-year-old man, Salihu Byezhe, tragically lost his life after collapsing during the early morning Subhi prayers at a mosque in Gudaba village, Kuje Area Council, Abuja.
Eyewitnesses said Byezhe had observed Sahur, the pre-dawn meal for fasting during Ramadan, before heading to the mosque for prayers on Thursday. However, during the prayer session, he suddenly slumped, prompting immediate efforts by worshippers to assist him.
He was rushed to a hospital in Kuje, but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Medical personnel attributed the cause of death to high blood pressure.
The deceased’s son, who was present at the mosque, accompanied him to the hospital, where the attending physician confirmed the tragic incident.
Byezhe’s burial took place at 10:12 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, in accordance with Islamic rites.
A community member, speaking on the incident, said, “It was a sad moment for everyone in the mosque. We had just started the prayers when he suddenly collapsed. We tried to revive him, but it was too late.”
