Enzo Maresca has left his role as Chelsea manager after a difficult end to the 2025 football year, with the club confirming that both parties agreed to part ways.

The decision comes with Chelsea sitting fifth in the Premier League following a sharp dip in form.

The Italian coach departs less than six months after leading the Blues to Club World Cup success, a triumph that initially strengthened his standing at Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea managed only one win in their final seven league matches, a run that saw them fall 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

In a statement, the club said both sides believed a change was necessary to give the team the best chance of salvaging the season, with key objectives still in play across domestic and continental competitions, including qualification for the Champions League.

Beyond results, Maresca’s exit was shaped by growing internal tension. His public comments, disagreements over transfer decisions, and visible distancing from club protocols reportedly strained relations with senior figures.

Chelsea sources indicate that his increasing frustration with working conditions also played a role in the timing of the separation.

Maresca’s final game in charge was a 2 2 draw against Bournemouth on December 30. Chelsea now turn their focus to a demanding run of fixtures, starting with a clash against Manchester City, as they begin life without the 45 year old at the helm.
