The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 230 suspects and seized a large quantity of illicit drugs in a 30 day operation carried out across major drug flashpoints in the state.
The state commander, Abubakar Idris, briefed reporters in Kano and described the operation as a major push in the ongoing effort to curb drug abuse and related crimes under the Kano State Joint Taskforce for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation.
He explained that officers worked round the clock with operatives of the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service and the Department of State Services.
According to him, this collaboration made it possible to penetrate areas long considered difficult for law enforcement.
Idris listed the locations covered during the raids. They include Kofar Ruwa, Tashar Rami, Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna, Mil Tara, Zage, Dorayi Karshen Waya, Dawanau, Filin Idi, Research, Rimi Market, Zango, Kofar Mata, Kano Line and Ladanai.
He said the items recovered range from cannabis sativa, EXOL-5 and diazepam to suck and die, rubber solution and codeine syrup.
He added that security operatives also recovered locally made weapons linked to drug syndicates.
Idris maintained that the command will sustain its operations to weaken drug networks in the state, stressing that the agency remains committed to restoring safety and supporting youth rehabilitation efforts.
