The incident, which occurred just two days after a similar attack in Kebbi State, has sent shockwaves through the community.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, authorities said the exact number of abducted students is still being determined as security agencies continue to investigate.

“The unfortunate incident occurred despite prior intelligence reports warning of increased threats in parts of Niger North Senatorial District,” the statement read. “Regrettably, St. Mary’s School resumed academic activities without notifying or seeking clearance from the State Government, exposing pupils and staff to avoidable risks.”

The state government revealed that it had earlier issued directives suspending construction works and temporarily closing boarding schools in the affected area as a precaution.

Following the abduction, a full-scale search-and-rescue operation has been launched, with security agencies working to secure the safe return of the students and staff.

The government urged school proprietors, community leaders, and residents to adhere strictly to security advisories.

“The protection of lives, especially those of our children, remains our utmost priority,” the statement added.
