Toronto, Canada – A 46-year-old Nigerian man, Osemwengie Irorere, was shot and killed inside a bus at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal in Toronto, Canada, on Sunday, January 4, 2026, around 7 p.m.
Toronto Police confirmed that a 40-year-old man, Tyrel Gibson, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident.
Police said in a statement, “The victim and suspect boarded a GO bus at the terminal. The suspect shot the victim before fleeing on foot. Officers arrived promptly and found the male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
Life-saving measures were attempted, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect was arrested shortly after, and a firearm was recovered.”
Gibson, a Toronto resident, was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.
The incident comes less than two weeks after another Nigerian, John Onetufo, was stabbed to death in Lewisham, London, on New Year’s Eve.
Authorities in the United Kingdom have confirmed that one suspect has been charged in connection with that murder.
