The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted dust haze and sunshine across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

In its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet said moderate dust haze is expected over parts of Kebbi and Kano states in the northern region on Monday.

The agency forecast horizontal visibility of between 2 km and 5 km over the area, while the rest of the northern states are expected to experience sunny and hazy skies throughout the forecast period.

“For the central region, moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility of 2 km to 5 km is anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger State, while the rest of the states in the region should be under sunny and hazy skies throughout the forecast period,” NiMet said.

The agency added that the southern region will experience sunny skies with a few patches of cloud, with prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

On Tuesday, NiMet predicted slight dust haze over parts of Kano and Kebbi states in the north, while the remaining northern states will experience sunny and hazy skies.

The central region is expected to have sunny and hazy skies throughout the day, with chances of isolated thundery activity over parts of Plateau State during the afternoon and evening.

In the south, the agency said sunny skies with patches of cloud are expected, with possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

For Wednesday, NiMet forecast sunny and hazy skies over the northern region throughout the forecast period. The central region is also expected to experience sunny and hazy skies all through the day.

In the southern region, sunny skies with a few patches of cloud are anticipated, with prospects of afternoon or evening thunderstorms with light rain over parts of Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

The agency warned that dust particles are in suspension and advised the public to take necessary precautions. It urged people with asthma and other respiratory conditions to be cautious of the present weather conditions.

“Driving during rain should be done with caution. Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning of their operations,” it said.

NiMet also urged residents to stay informed through weather updates from the agency and to visit its website for more information.
